1. The Oceanographic Museum

The Oceanographic Museum is located on the edge of a cliff, the mythical Rock of Monaco, just east of the Mediterranean Sea . There are a total of 90 tanks in the aquarium, and 450 species of sea creatures. The aquarium is just the centerpiece though, with additional rooms surrounding it. They showcase the history of marine biology and oceanography through photographs, interactive displays, and old equipment.

2. Monte Carlo Casino

The Monte Carlo Casino is Europe’s most luxurious example of belle epoque architecture. It is a casino as well as a theater and is located between the Alps and the French medieval villages, northwest of the Mediterranean. The name “Monte Carlo” means Mount Charles in Ligurian, who was the one who came up with the idea to build it. It’s open to visitors until 2 pm, and then the gambling starts. Note that sneakers are forbidden and it is recommended to wear a jacket and tie in the gaming rooms.

 

Price: 9am-noon €10, 2pm €10 (children) €20 (adults)

3. Prince's Palace of Monaco

Prince Palace of Monaco is the official residence of the prince of Monaco, which is currently Prince Albert the II. The palace was built in the 13th century on top of Le Rocher (The Rock), which is just north of the Mediterranean, and there is a daily changing of the guard at 11:55 am. You can also tour the apartments but buying tickets in advance is recommended, so you don’t have to wait in line.

4. Jardin Exotique de Monaco

Jardin Exotique de Monaco is a botanical garden that is home to the world’s largest cactus and succulent collection. Located on a cliffside in Monaco, northwest of the Prince's Palace, you can walk down the maze like paths and see the Mediterranean Sea.

5. Saint Nicholas Cathedral

The Saint Nicholas Cathedral, also known as Cathédrale de Monaco, is located in Monaco-Ville, southwest of the Town Hall. You can visit Prince Rainer’s and Princess Grace’s flowered graves along with sculptures and paintings. It is closed on the 1st Thursday of the month in September through May.
